Let's look at a refraction through a rectangular glass slab.
The light ray changed direction and slows down in the glass, but when it goes out of the glass, it goes back to its original direction and speed.
The angle "θ3" is called "angle of emergence".
And as you can see: θ1 = θ3.
So we know that the angle of emergence is equal to the angle of incidence.
Compare to the incdent ray, the emergent ray is shifted to the side, and it is parallels to the incident ray. We call this "lateral shift".
